We hope that your family will join us for Maker Fun Factory VBS/VBX, where kids (and adults, too) learn that they are Created by God & Built for a Purpose. Each day is filled with incredible Bible learning that kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Crafts, team building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the activities that help faith flow into real life. Since everything is hands on, kids might get a little messy. Be sure to send them in play clothes and safe shoes. You’re in for an over-the-top underground adventure!
Whether this is your first VBS/VBX adventure at Mt. Horeb or you are returning for another great week, please take a few minutes to read ALL the information below and then select the session that best meets the needs of your family!
General Information for All Ages and Sessions
As in previous years, we will offer three sessions. Please note that the evening (PM) session begins Sunday night and ends on Thursday night, while the others begin on Monday and run through Friday.
All sessions are open to children age 4 through those who have just completed the 6th grade. Note: children must be 4 years old by September 1, 2017 to participate. Volunteers may reserve a space and bring their younger aged children with them during the session in which they serve to participate in one of our nursery rooms. Reservations are made during volunteer training.
Friend/Guest Request Policy
If your child would like to invite a non-Mt. Horeb member to attend with them, you may request that they be placed in a classroom/crew with your child. That friend must also request that your child be placed with them in order for the placement to be considered. While we will do our best to accommodate requests, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be able to be honored. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and assistance.
When you register your child or children you will be asked to give a “security word” that will be required at pick up. You may use the same word for each child in your family. At pick up, your child’s crew guide will ask for the security word. Please share the word with anyone who might be picking up your child. A signature will also be required for nursery and preschool aged children.
Consent for Treatment Required
When you register your child, you give permission for the VBS Staff to provide and secure medical treatment for your child, including transportation and hospitalization, in the event of an emergency.
When you register your child, you give consent for photos taken during VBS to be used for promotional purposes within the church and on printed and electronic media.
Preschool: 4 and 5 Year Olds
Our Preschool VBS is for children who will be 4 years old by September 1, 2017 through those children who are 5 years old but have not yet attended 5 year old Kindergarten. Children will be dropped off and picked up in their assigned classroom. Each classroom will have 2 or more trained and loving crew leaders who will remain with them throughout the session. Preschoolers will travel outside their classroom for games, worship, Kid Vid Theater, and Bible teaching, but will experience crafts and snacks in their room with trained station leaders bringing the fun to them.
Drop Off and Pick Up: there must be two adult volunteers present in the classroom before crew leaders can begin to check in your children. For safety and stability reasons, we ask that parents check in their children at the door instead of going in to the classrooms.
Kindergarten through 6th Grade
Children who have just completed Kindergarten through the 6th grade will be assigned to a grade-level crew. Crew assignments will be posted at the entrance to the west (new) building prior to the start of each session. Each crew will be led by an adult or older youth crew guide. Groups of crews rotate through stations together—Opening and Closing Worship, Bible Adventures, Crafts, Games, Snacks, and Kid Vid Theater. Children who have completed the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades will be grouped together as part of our VBX program, which provides a program designed especially for them. This program will rock and will have the kids begging to invite their friends to attend with them!

Take a look at the volunteer jobs we need to fill both before and during VBS.
We do have some required training for volunteers. There are multiple training sessions offered to help you meet a date and time that works for you.
As a matter of church policy, we must have every adult who works alongside children complete our Safe Sanctuary course. If you’ve never taken this course, then please make plans to attend one of the scheduled classes below. If you’ve taken Safe Sanctuary before, you may need to take a refresher. Don’t worry, when you sign up to volunteer someone will contact you and let you know if you need to do this.
General Volunteer Training and Breakout Sessions
We ask that you attend one of the four training sessions for VBS. During that time, you’ll receive an overall briefing about VBS and what we do in the “big picture.” Following that session, you’ll meet with a director from your volunteer area to discuss items that are specific to you. If you need the Safe Sanctuary course, we’ll have that available for you prior to each volunteer training session.

Volunteers: please just click the button for volunteers to be taken to our registration form for volunteers.
Participants: the registration form will ask you for information that we need in order to properly place and care for your child. Please provide a separate emergency contact from the parent you have listed – this is the person we will contact if we can’t reach you in an emergency. All of the questions on the form must be answered or the registration process will not complete. Look for a red error message if you do not see a confirmation page or receive a confirmation e-mail.
Using the e-mail address given when you register, we will contact you the week before VBS begins to provide you with important information regarding parking and check-in. Please make sure you check the spelling and accuracy of your e-mail address!
If you have any questions about or issues with registration, please let us know!
We look forward to hearing from you, working with you and your children, and praising God while we do it!
